Town Green Construction Progress, 12/10/10

Concrete pours began this week as promised, but the extreme cold limited the work that could be done.  On-site grading continues, as the site is being prepped for concrete driveway pours.  They are set to begin that phase of the work as we ring in the New Year.  The utility work is about wrapped up, as crews put the final touches on the water and sewer improvements, and electrical contractors began transferring service to new transformers located on the perimeter of the project site.

It is important to note, for those business located north of the Menagerie to DeKalb Street, as well as those west of Wachovia to Broad Street, electric service will be transferred to underground service over the weekend.  Electric outages are scheduled to take place as follows:

Wachovia – Saturday after 1:30 pm
All remaining affected stores – Sunday after 3:00 pm
*In the event of rain on Sunday the work will be moved to Monday after 11:00 pm.

Next week we will start seeing some things take shape in the green area.  Contractors begin pouring concrete footers for the masonry walls surrounding the Town Green and behind Rutledge Street Gallery.  Brick masons are expected to be on site Monday to begin building the walls, which will serve as the sitting walls around the green.

The construction staging has been slightly adjusted due to the current cold snap.  For the remainder of the month to the first week of January, look for work to continue on the stonework and brick within the green.

If all goes according to schedule, the large Oak Trees centered on the Town Green could be planted in early January.  All utility work is scheduled to be completed at this time and work on constructing the concrete drives is expected to begin.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience
