What to Expect

The first phase of the project began Monday, as crews are working to demolish the old stormwater system and install a newone. Electricians will also be on site installing underground utilities. Look for this process to last approximately three weeks.

Today, the contractors are spot digging to locate utilities. Beginning next week they will begin moving earth and continuing with the stormwater installation. The stormwater installation will begin on Rutledge Street in front of the Old Armory and work will progress in a northerly direction along the site.

The driveway entrance at Rutledge Street will be converted to a gravel drive; however, it should remain accessible through the majority of the project with limited shutdown periods.

The northern entrance off of Market Street will remain accessible to both Wachovia and NBSC, but there may be incremental shutdown periods while contractors underground utility lines in the vicinity of the curb cuts.

Business owners are reminded that if you are unable to unload from the rear alley, all deliveries should be made from the fronting street of your building. Parking behind your buildings should remain accessible through the entirety of the project (the City suggests that if handicapped parking is an issue, these spots should be designated for those who are unable to walk from the temporary parking lot).

If your business would like more roll carts for waste disposal, contact Wade Luther, Downtown Manager, at 432-2421.
