Town Green Construction Progress, 11/23/10

Work crews pour concrete to stabilize the granite curbing
For those of you who venture out to the project site on a daily basis, you can see enormous progress over the past two weeks.  Underground utility work is nearly completed, and there are two additional work crews on site this week in efforts to complete the underground phase before the Thanksgiving holidays.

There have been some partial disruptions to access of the Rutledge Street alleyway and Wachovia and NBSC parking, but these areas should be open over the holidays to keep impact to holiday shopping to a minimum.  Again the City thanks you all for your patience and willingness to work with us and the contractor during the underground utility construction period.

Last week contractors begin laying the stone curbing for the edge of the Town Green and tremendous progress has been made this week.  The granite curbing is almost complete. Concrete curbing pours began today along the eastern edge of the project area.

With the exception of placing a few french drains and water valves within the greenspace and Market Street corridor, the project is beginning to become solely focused on the above ground work.

Look for contractors to begin pouring the concrete drives soon after the holidays.  I cannot express the importance of staying out of the construction zone during this process.  It takes 28 days for the concrete to cure, and any unauthorized activity within the construction zone could jeopardize the integrity of the concrete and its finish.

Again, the City cannot thank you enough for your cooperation during the construction phase. It will be well worth the wait as we move forward to create a better downtown for today and tomorrow.
